Abstract

This article aims to present the military journal “O Militar Brioso” published in the city of Rio de Janeiro between January and July 1855. The journal can be characterized within the traditional context of the periodical press of the nineteenth century, it means from a combative nature and publicist. Attempts to demonstrate the problems and needs of the military class, with a speech and incisive character opposition. Although the anonymity, the survey was able to identify the editor of this journal. Information is important to establish the place of his speech writer and also the influence of special training in the critical discourse of military people. The sudden disappearance of the publication indicates the discomfort caused by the speech of the journal to the poles of political and military power of Rio de Janeiro.
