Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze relevant aspects of the great discussion about the technical modernization of the Brazilian Navy, specially about the Amazon Flotilla. In that way, we verified the international process known as “arms race” and the reflects in Brazil on issues such as avaliations about the brazilian naval power, the situation of the navy’s material and staff and yet the actions in order of acquisitions of ships according to the national ambitions and conditions, navigation and the Amazon security at the end of nineteenth and beginning of twentieth centuries.
