Abstract

This article analyzes projects of utilization of Indian labor on sea navigation’s activity in province Bahia, during Empire. One basing in information of past, several authorities planned the employ of Indigenous from Bahia in Navy or navy merchant. In some regions, as south zone, the utilization of Indians under condition of seamen proportioned a concurrence by this kind of work, at the same time that, in general plane, many authorities, by lack of information, extended the coast Indians nautical tradition to indigenous from inland.
