O The Florida Tugboat (1908-1917)
the birth of an underwater archaeological site on the coast of Pernambuco with a museum face
Abstract
The work presents the entrance of the Florida steam tug in the category of underwater archaeological site of shipwreck, whose sinking occurred in the sea adjacent to the coast of Pernambuco on June 28, 1917. Its official rite of passage, as a submerged cultural heritage of the Pernambuco coast, occurs due to the 2001 Paris Convention. Florida is part of the Pernambuco Shipwreck Park that contemplates something about 50 scientifically exploitable vessels of different classes, size, propulsion, material and varied construction techniques, from the 17th century to the XXI. In this context it is diagnosed the factor causing its shipwreck, identified accessories and apparatuses still visible and described the tragic maritime history of its crew, aiming at the possible creation of a submerged museum in situ.
