Abstract

Topics of geopolitical nature were closely linked to the strategic decisions taken by the different political and economic agents active in the final years of the old Iberian regime in the river Plate region (1778 to 1810) and in the beginning of the revolutionary period (1810-1820). These same agents and their roles are addressed in this work, but in order to give centrality to the territorial and port issues of the of the River Plate basin, with its peculiarities and partialities, defining the importance of the port-cities for the survival and consolidation of the rebel political formations.
