The harbor traffic in Sergipe (1840-1910) through journals:

an excersise of archaeological graphic escavation

Abstract

This article shows the results of a research of scientific iniciation that began in 2021 that persues new information relates to the old provincy ‘Sergipe del Rey’ from journals digitalized in the Hemeroteca Digital Brasileira*1. We made a survey of notices from 1840-1910 in several journals available looking for reports of arrivals or departure of watercrafts in Sergipe ports, as well as announcements of navegation companies and other messages that were pertinent to the construction of knowledge of the portuary movement of the old provincy. This database allowed us to observe which shipowners and watercrafts touched ports of Sergipe and which passengers and cargo they brought. The information obtained were used to study social and economical aspects of the Brazilian society from the XIX century.
