Abstract

The objective of this paper is highlight some aspects about measures and instructions given by the Portuguese monarchy that were sent by Brazil State during the XVI and XVII centuries and rebuilding the military career covered by the governor general of Brazil State between 1640 and 1702. Therefore, this paper analyzes the first measures aimed at protecting the coast of Portuguese America, to comparatively analyze the tasks of defense and military organization performed by general government. Finally contributes to the understanding of the organization and the military hierarchy after the Portuguese Restoration.
