Abstract

The purpose of this summary is to investigate the dynamics of the war in the Portuguese monarchy. Having as the starting point the American space, there are conflicts and tensions between the Hispanic and Portuguese monarchies. Passing over multiple poles of power, such as governors, master of field and other military forces, this communication scans the social dynamics of those political actors. Through the course of the Portuguese master of field, Manoel de Freitas Fonseca, that even after the defeat to the Spaniards in 1723, and his arrest ordered by King Dom João V, was released and temporarely got in charge of the government of Rio de Janeiro in 1732. As it has been presented the tracks were searched in the National Archives of Rio de Janeiro, where mainly correspondence of governors and the Overseas Historical Archive (Rescue Project), and letters of Overseas Council were delimited and the King Dom João V orders. As the main goal, through the dynamics of the war, we trace an interim governing practice, and it relations with the central government and local authorities being the question to be proposed in this academic paper.
