Walking towards a strong, homogeneous and exercised Navy

the proposal to create four Companies of “Aspirantes” Sailors in the discussions of the Senate in 1833

Abstract

This article constructed four hands comes from the interest which the military education and training issues has aroused in academic and institutional historians mainly driven by the prospects of the “new” Military History, focusing on the nineteenth century Navy. The aim of this study is still under construction is demonstrated through the debates in the Senate in 1833, the creation and establishment of the first company of Apprentices Sailors in 1840, can be analyzed as a process marked by different ideas and propositions defined by different historical moments and political immersed in a political culture that involved different institutional, political and social agents.
