Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the tensions on the borders of the Amazon in the first half of the 20th century, through the documentation produced by the Brazilian Army, which reveals the institutional position on the military conflicts that occurred in the 1930s in the South America, seeking to identify in these documents historical and political constructions on border tensions. The article reinforces that, in addi-tion to the regional conflicts, there were indirectly established political tensions between Brazil and Argenti-na due to the traditional rivalry and the dispute for control of regional power. The investigation was based on the theoretical arguments established by the geopolitics of Mário Travassos considering, for this purpose, the territorial occupation and the control of the terrestrial limits, for the maintenance of the national sove-reignty.
