Abstract

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) lead to high rates of complications, and favors the selection and dissemination of multidrug resistant microorganisms (MDR). To minimize such care-associated risks health care institutions have sought to standardize work processes. Hence, this study evaluates and discusses a multidisciplinary team’s level of knowledge about contact precautions when caring for patients with multidrug-resistant germs. A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in a large hospital with 25 permanent professionals and 50 mobile professionals who had been working in the sector for at least a month. Data collected by the semi-structured questionnaires “Demographic and Occupational Questionnaire” and “Questionnaire of Knowledge on Contact Precautions (QCPC)” underwent statistical analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. Most participants were women, with complete higher education, in the professional category of physician. The need for a minimum distance of a meter, when a private room is
not available, showed the highest percentage of doubts in the studied population. HAIs prevention measures present low material cost, requiring better training and adherence promotion for a safe and quality care.
