Abstract

Lipoma is a benign mesenchymal tumor, composed of mature adipose tissue, frequently found in several areas of the body, but only in 1 to 5% of cases are located inside the oral cavity. They can be asymptomatic, with slow
growth and usually appear after 40 years of age. Its etiology remains unknown, but may be associated with trauma, endocrine changes and hereditary causes. Surgical excision is the technique of choice for the treatment of these injuries, being a very rare recurrence. This work reports on the treatmet of a lipoma from the cheek mucosa through excisional biopsy in a 55-years old male patient, whom reported the appearance of the lesion four months ago.
