Knowledge management as a strategy to achieve quality of life at nursing work.

The study aimed to identify strategies pointed by nurses to achieve the quality of work life. Method: this is a descriptive study with aqualitative approach. Data collection was carried out between August and November 2009, following a step development guide. Study subjects were sixteen nurses working in different practice settings of a university hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. With regard to ethical aspects, the study was approved by the ethics committee of the Anna Nery School of Nursing (Protocol #045/2009). Results: the group of participants highlighted strategic actions in the hospital towards knowledge management, aimed at improving the quality of work life. These actions were the hiring human resources, investment in communication with the nursing staff, and the work commitment. Discussion: With the scientific and technical advances related to healthcare, currently, the nursing professional brings together more knowledge to the service provided than professionals in other decades. It is noteworthy that such reality comprises the availability of information and
ways to get the knowledge to support the work actions in nursing. Conclusion: this discussion with professionals identified the need to create alternatives for health promotion and prevention in the workplace, especially in knowledge management as an important strategy for achieving the quality of work life.
