Abstract

From 1941 Recife became the headquarters of a complex number of military and support facilities, hosting an important naval base of the US Navy that was installed by the Americans due to the city's geographical and strategic location for the defense of the Atlantic and also for the importance of its port. During this period, there was an intense flow of military personnel who were in naval operations of the Fourth American Squadron in the context of the Battle of the Atlantic. In their days off, these soldiers had several moments of relaxation. This article is about the U.S.O. club in Recife, the main leisure and relaxation space for US military troops during their free time.
