Abstract

This study demonstrates the impact of the Napoleonic campaigns in South America. The Prince of Portugal D. João was forced to abandon his home land due to the French troops’ invasion and declared war against France.He began a military campaign in the northern region of Brazil with the intention to impair a French influence in America and to extend the Portuguese territory domain until the Oiapoque River.
