A Marinha de Guerra na Independência do Brasil - reflexões sobre a relevância do poder naval

Abstract

The Brazilian Imperial Navy played a key role in the consolidation of Brazil’s Independence, acting as a strategic element in the victory obtained in the military operations of the period, which concentrated in three areas of operation: Bahia, North (Ceará, Piauí, Maranhão and Pará) and Cisplatina. This paper analyses the process that led to Brazil’s Independence and the question of the war, emphasizing the building of the Imperial Navy and naval military operations. The complementarity between land and naval operations is highlighted.
