Abstract

This work contemplates the study of the individual and family trajectory of the naval captain José Moreira Guerra and the social, economic and political strategies used by him, as a member of the first elite, to maintain or increase his social position in Aracaju, our spatial landmark. The research covered much of the second half of the 19th century, as it begins with the transfer of the capital of the province postponed on March 17, 1855 during the presidency of Inácio Joaquim Barbosa, and ends in 1878, the year of the deceased's death. The analysis of various sources such as inventories, wills, newspapers and parish records made it possible to follow the trajectory of this prestigious military man who played a prominent role in the first years of consolidation of Aracaju.
