Maintaining analytical quality in blood glucose testing is essential for patient safety, especially in high-complexity institutions such as the Hospital Naval Marcílio Dias (HNMD). This study aimed to implement Internal Quality Control (CIQ) for glucose meters used throughout the hospital, in compliance with legislation and hospital accreditation criteria. Initially, CIQ was performed on two glucose meters from the Serviço de Análises Clínicas (SAC), using commercial two-level control materials. Results were analyzed using Levey-Jennings charts and Westgard Rules, enabling the identification and correction of analytical deviations. Subsequently, the CIQ program was expanded to include 35 patient care sectors using glucose meters, with bimonthly convocations for testing at the SAC. Quality indicators such as attendance rate, approval rate, rejection rate, and operational status were monitored throughout 2024. Progressive improvement was observed in sector adherence and device approval rates, reflecting increased institutional engagement. The results supported the development of a Standard Operating Procedure, approved by the Assessoria de Qualidade e Segurança do Paciente, establishing CIQ as a mandatory practice across the institution. This initiative contributed to the successful achievement of hospital accreditation status, reinforcing HNMD’s commitment to patient safety and the quality of laboratory services.
