Perfil dos pacientes submetidos à cirurgia bariátrica em Hospital Militar localizado na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, no ano de 2014

The study aimed to describe the profile of patients who underwent bariatric surgery at a military hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study of retrospective data for the year 2014. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee as Protocol: 1173219 of 08/03/2015. The sample is of 26 obese patients who underwent bariatric surgery as a resource for weight loss. The data collection was done through individual electronic medical records of patients (PIN). Among physical activity habits, alcohol consumption and cigarette and comorbidities (diabetes mellitus and hypertension). They also used the data collected on the day of surgery (weight and BMI) and postoperative (weight after 6 months, BMI and development of Dumping Syndrome). Statistical analyzes were performed using the software R.3.2.2, with 5% significance level. It was observed that the female population was majority and younger men. Diabetes Mellitus affects 19.2% of the study group and 73.1% are hypertensive. Pre BMI and after surgery showed a significant decrease.
It was seen that 56.5% did not exercise, 71.4% did not drink, and observed the development of Dumping Syndrome in 14.3% patients. The practice of bariatric surgery has increased, making it necessary that health professionals are up to date and prepared to provide patients the best possible quality of life.
